No. It depends on your long-term goals. If you’re looking to do patient care you would go the fellowship route as Ph.D.s do not treat patients. If you are looking to treat patients there is no reason to do a Ph.D. You can do a research based or clinical post-doc fellowship and apply for all of the grants and activities of an Immunologist.
