Those are all good questions(in your description). I would also look at the papers he has recently had published and any inline for publication.
- Who are the co-authors?
- Will you be able to coordinate with them too?
- Are they working on areas of research that are important to you?
If his rank is below Adviser, you are wise to ask who will advise you. Is it his adviser? Will it be another Adviser in the program? Also find out if he expects you to answer to him and to a second adviser since his rank is low. Two advisers can be a nightmare.
