Here are some resources to aid your writing and speaking skills particularly if you are not a native American English speaker.

If you have recommendations, please add them in the comments below. The first few are resources that are uniformly robust and are useful to my former students. These are not resources for total beginners.

The top three resources to help non-native English speakers improve their English speaking skills.1. Advanced Composition for Non-Native Speakers of English, Eslbee.com. This web site is for non-native speakers of English who want to write in English. The materials in this site are prepared for high intermediate or advanced English learners. If you are already successfully working in the US or with teams in the US, and or attended college in the US, this is the place for you to start.

2. THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO WRITING PROGRAM: An annotated collection of grammar and writing resources from around the web.

3. Common Writing Problems for Non-Native Speakers of English, super simple Grammar and Usage Guides.

Here are more resources those these are a hodge-podge. Some gems, some junk. You’ll have to sift through these a bit more to find what you might want. NNES = Non-Native English Speakers.

A4esl.org – Website features a large database of NNES learning activities including bilingual quizzes, vocabulary quizzes, and crosswords.

Englishclub.com – Website features hundreds of worksheets for NNES students. Worksheets on grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading, and conversation are available.

ESLmania.com – Database features lessons in idioms, grammar accent reduction, and more. It also has links to mobile apps for NNES students.

http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/section/5/25/ – These resources will help students in second language writing. This gets into more cultural writing and how to frame what you are trying to get across. Also has exercises about writing for different professional populations (North America, India, China) in English.
